We've supported a variety of causes at Hardin-Simmons University through the years because the university is important to us. One of our favorite projects is a recent one—providing purple and gold Bibles for incoming students. This is very meaningful, and a great way to reach out to new students. We hope they will use these Bibles regularly, drawing upon God's word throughout their lives.
Honoring faculty and staff members every year is a top priority for us, also. Each spring, when we receive the list of employees reaching milestones or retiring, we read each name so we're sure to make a gift honoring those we know. It's a wonderful way for us to show our appreciation to faculty and staff for their dedicated service.
In addition, we support athletics, the Annual Scholarship Fund, and other programs that are significant to us. While we can't give as much as we would like to every cause, we make sure we give something to those that are near and dear to our hearts.
Besides giving money, we enjoy giving our time. We served together for four years on the Alumni Association Board of Directors. We loved working at graduation, the Alumni Awards Banquet, the Faculty/Staff Appreciation Dinner, and of course, serving homemade ice cream to incoming students during orientation. We have met so many wonderful people that we would not have met otherwise.
Throughout our careers as teachers, we encouraged students to consider HSU. We still urge prospective students to attend our alma mater. Having attended Hardin-Simmons at different stages of our lives, we don't limit those efforts to high school students. It's never too late to complete your degree, and it's a life-changing experience.
If you aren't involved at Hardin-Simmons or don't give financially, we hope you'll consider doing both. We find it very rewarding.
