Bud '63 and Wanda Crow
By Bud '63 and Wanda Crow
We all have causes and endeavors that we support. Though Wanda didn't attend Hardin-Simmons University, I'll briefly tell you why we are advocates of Christian education.
First of all, I'm grateful for the impact HSU has had on my life. A good education is vital in today's world and it opens many doors. In my profession, a college degree was one of the basic requirements, and the time I spent at Hardin-Simmons gave a big boost to my life.
Second, we have grave concerns about the future of our nation. The United States was founded as a Christian nation. We grew up in an era where there were high moral standards; unfortunately, they have been severely eroded. In the last 50 years, the moral deterioration is staggering. We have drifted far from where our founding fathers started, and we need to change our course.
A good secular education is necessary. We need to be prepared to live and function in this life. However, someday we will all give an account of our lives and we need to be prepared for that day, as well. Christ-centered, Bible-based teachings help us not only in this life but prepare us for the next as well. Education without Biblical truths is incomplete; HSU teaches these truths and I know that it built a strong foundation for my personal faith. We understand that university training and spiritual training can come from separate organizations, but we like seeing them interwoven.
And third, we like to participate in endeavors that give the next generation a boost in life. We have enjoyed and benefited from our time at and association with HSU, not only by receiving a good education, but also making many lifetime friends, which is one of life's greatest treasures. Wanda and I would like for the next generation to have some of the same benefits that we have received, so we gladly support HSU.
