Candy (Thweatt) Noble '83 and Robert Noble
By Candy (Thweatt) Noble '83
We give to Hardin-Simmons University because HSU provides an education that is grounded in faith. Christian values are upheld university-wide, which is very important to our family.
Robert graduated from Texas Tech, which, like other state schools, receives public funds from tax dollars. We believe it's important to support HSU in part because the university doesn't receive such funding.
The most important thing that happened to us at HSU was meeting each other there. Robert was involved in the Baptist Student Union (now Baptist Student Ministries) at Tech, and came to HSU for a Baptist Student Union conference. A mutual friend introduced us, and we're so glad he did!
HSU changed the course of my life, and I quickly grew from a shy teenager to a confident woman. I was very involved in campus life, even running for (and surprisingly getting elected to) Student Congress as a freshman.
Academically, I was encouraged and inspired, especially by Bertie Kingore in the School of Education. She made a difference in the lives of many, many students.
Our lives continue to be impacted by HSU through our personal involvement in campus activities and by serving on the Board of Development. We're so pleased that two of our daughters attended HSU. Melissa graduated in 2007. Danielle will graduate this December.
We're the proud grandparents of William and we're expecting our second grandchild in a few months. We hope they will be part of the next generation of HSU students.
